     Butte's history is steeped in mining lore. The skyline is etched with black steel headframes, the structures supporting hoisting sheaves at the top of mine shafts. It's obvious that Butte was once filled with prosperous mining claims. And still, the area is peppered with symbols from the rough and untamed past. Present day Butte's friendly people are hospitable, proud of their past, and eager to welcome visitors to their unique part of America. Butte events include: St. Patrick's Day, Mining Heritage Days, Freedom Festival Celebration, Butte-Silver Bow County Fair, and Butte Heritage Festival.

     Built in 1898 by Charles W. Clark. Now contains and features the Elizabeth Lochrie original works as well as other artist.

     Visitors get a birds-eye view of the open pit copper mine from a telescope located at the viewing area. Remarkable view of the pit and the East Ridge of the Continental Divide.

     The mansion is filled with the opulence of the Victorian era, and tours are given through the home. The mansion serves as a bed and breakfast as well.

     Dumas Brothel

     Built in 1890, the brothel was the longest running house of prostitution in Butte. Today it serves as a museum honoring a significant part of the history of this rough and ready mining town.

     Features and exhibits geological maps, earthquake studies, minerals, and a gold nugget that was found in the Highland Mountains in 1989. The gold nugget is said to be the largest in Montana.

     The 90-foot statue stands high upon a mountain peek overlooking Butte. Completed in 1985, the statue was built entirely by volunteers. Travel to the site by arranged tours.
