Frank Lloyd Wright, America's greatest architect, designed more than 700 buildings during his celebrated career. Yet only once did he express his genius through a six-structure residential design, the Darwin D. Martin House Complex. Built between 1904 and 1906, the glass "Prairie House" that graces the corner of Jewett Parkway and Summit Avenue in Buffalo, New York is now being restored to its former glory to serve as a centerpiece for architectural heritage tourism and education in Western New York. Considered one of Wright's greatest works in the eastern United States, the Darwin D. Martin House Complex shares this status with Fallingwater in Bear Run, Pennsylvania, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Frank Lloyd Wright's influence on 20th Century architecture is felt widely throughout the world, but it was his unique relationship with Darwin Martin that ensured his commission for the Larkin Company Administration Building, a revolutionary structure that was to have profound effect on modern design.
