     Akron is located in Northeast Ohio, approximately 30 miles south of Clevelend. The city was laid out in 1825 by Irish laborers and others working on the Ohio Canal project. Akron flourished as a major manufacturing center and throughout the years it has experienced many changes. Today's Akron offers the excitement of a major metropolitan area and boasts a vibrant present and historic past. Events include: Akron Rib & Music Festival, numerous professional sport home games, Oktoberfest, Jazz Festival, and the Loyal Oak Cider Festival.

     Official Web Site of Akron Aeros Baseball. Owner Mike Agganis purchased the team around 1981. Afterward the team moved around til it relocated to Akron in 1997 where it has stayed ever since.

     Akron Art Museum

     The Akron Art Museum is located in the Old Akron Post Office. The museum includes artwork dating back to the mid 1800's. Exhibits include photography, sculpture, folk art, paintings, and other borrowed works or showcasing pieces from artists and museums. The museum also offers storytelling, hands-on art programs, guest lectures, poetry readings, annual film series, and an event like Downtown at Dusk, an outdoor concert featured in the summer.

     Akron Police Department Museum was started in 1968 to preserve the history of Akron's force. Features items confiscated by the police. Displayed items includes weapons, counterfeit money, drug paraphernalia, gambling equipment and over 200 photographs.

     Started in 1968 with it's first concert, the Blossom Music Center is located among 800 acres of woodland. The Blossom Music Center includes a palvilion with great sound acoustics. The pavilion holds over 5,000 covered seating and the grounds can hold another 13,500. The Blossom Music Center is the summer home for the Cleveland Orchestra.

     Perkins Mansion

     The Perkins Mansion is a Greek Revival mansion built in 1837 by Col. Simon Perkins, son of Akron's founder, Gen. Simon Perkins. Still contains some of the furnishing of that time. Also the abolitionist John Brown lived across the street for 2 years.

     The Quaker Square is located in the old factory buildings of the Quaker Oats Co. It was renovated and turn into a hotel, restaurant, a night club and specialty shops. The Depot Restauraunt contains a collection of railroad memorabilia. In 1975, Quaker Oats Co. moved its headquarters to Chicago after renovating Quaker Square.

     The Stan Hywet Hall And Gardens is a 65-room Tudor Revival architecture manor. It is the Former home of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and his family. The home is furnished and decorated with original furnishings. Located on 70 landscaped acres is a Japanese garden. Includes a historically restored English Garden, Japanese Garden and Rose Garden. A Greenhouse and Museum Store is available for shopping.
