Named as the "City of Oaks," Raleigh was also called the "Green Survival City" on 1975 in the country. Founded in 1792 and named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who founded the first Engilsh settlement in North Carolina. Raleigh's historical and government buildings to see are the State Capital, the Executive Mansion, a Queen Anne-style house for the governor's to live, the new State Legislative Building, the State Library, J.S. Dorton Arena at the State Fair, the Research Triangle, and the Mordecai Historic Park. Of the areas museums to see are the North Carolina Museum of Art featuring a collection of old masters artworks like Rubens, Rembrandt, Goya, and others, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, a children favorite, the North Carolina Museum of History, and the Hall of History. Educational institutions around the area are North Carolina State University, Duke University, the University of North Carolia, and Shaw University. Other interests or attractions include the Joel Lane House and Pullen Park.
