Omaha, Nebraska's largest city that used the railroad and river to build one of the world's largest livestock markets and meat packing industries, served by the Union Stock Yards. The name Omaha comes from an American Indian word meaing "above all others on a stream." Omaha settled on an area known as the "Crossroads of the Nation," and founded in 1846 to 1847 by a group of Mormons. About 600 of the Mormons died during that winter and are now buried in the Mormon Cemetery with a fine monument "Winter Quarters," by Avard Fairbanks. In 1868, Fort Omaha was built to protect worker building the Union Pacific and Nothern Pacific railroads as in to provide support for the troops who engaged the Indians. The Union Pacific Station is now formally the Western Heritage Museum, Nebraska's largest restored art-deco railroad station. Museums to also see are the Strategic Air Command Museum, providing a glimpse of aviation wonders, the Joslyn Memorial Art Museum with excellent exhibits, and the Union Pacific Historical Museum of railroading history. Schooling provided here is the Duchesne College, University of Nebraska Medical School, Creighton University, and the Municipal University of Omaha. Other attractions to visit are Father Flanagan's Boys Town, a haven for homeless boys, Aka-Sar-Ben Coliseum offering events and shows, Louisville Recreation Grounds, St. Cecillia's Cathedral, Our Lady of Nebraska Chapel, and the parks of Elmwood and Levi Carter. the College World Series, American Legion Little World Series, and Pop Warner Midget Football Bowl games are all of Omaha's areas for sports to go and visit. Two events or shows to see while in Omaha are the River City Roundup and Rodeo and the Omaha Summer Arts Festival.
