Known for the Murrah Federal Building bombing in 1995, Oklahoma City is the capital and the largest city in the state. Founded in 1889 by a presidential proclamation, the area to make up Oklahoma City was to have 10,000 land claims in one afternoon. Oklahoma City's good fortune of economics lies upon two of the world's greatest high gravity oil fields, and the first strike began in 1928 starting off a series of derricks around the town. The other thing that drove the town into its economy is its aviation industry. Areas of aviation in the area include the Douglas Aircraft Co., the Tinker Air Force Base, being the largest repair and supply depot in the world, and the Civil Aeromedical Institute and the FAA Aeronautical Center making their homes at the Will Rogers World Airport. The city has a Red Earth Festival which there is a gathering of over 100 North American tribes celebrating their traditions.
