Nashville, also known as "Music city, U.S.A.," and famous for being the capital of country music because of the Grand Ole Opry. Founded in 1779, by an Englishman called James Robertson and called the settlement Nashville after Francis Nash, a Revolutionary War general. Later in 1843, Nashville became the capital of the state and showed it's importance as a trade center. Now visiting the area you should see the State Capitol and the Grand Ole Opry which is at Opryland USA. Opryland USA is a musical attraction park with rides and live shows featuring the Grand Old Opry since 1974. Explore downtown and see Fort Nashborough and the District's historic 19th-century buildings. Also downtown are the Downtown Presbyterian Church, Tennessee State Museum with over 6,000 artifacts, and the Ryman Auditorium and Museum which showed the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. In Centennial Park, stands an exact replica of the Greek Parthenon in Athens and was built for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition of 1897. Visiting the Hermitage, a mansion built by President Andrew Jackson for his wife, Rachel, and other historical homes such as Travelers Rest and the Belle Meade Mansion. Some of Nashville's most known higher level institutes include Vanderbilt University with over 10,000 students, Meharry Medical College, Tennessee State University, and Fisk University. Other attractions to see or hear are Music Row, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum including RCA Studio B, Cheekwood-Tennessee Botanical Gardens & Museum of Art, and J. Percy Priest Lake.
