Settled along 5 1/2 miles of sandy white beaches, Long Beach has all the
ambiance of a sophisticated urban area and the feel of a seaside community.
Since it was settled by the Spanish in 1784, Long Beach has emerged as a
community full of eclectic cultures, and shoreline attractions. Long Beach is
located 20 miles south of Los Angeles. Long Beach events include: Whale
Watching, Grand Prix of Long Beach, International Friendship Festival, Cajun &
Zydeco Festival, Beach FEST, and Long Beach Senior Olympics.

The aquarium is filled with dozens of exhibits including more than 10,000
ocean inhabitants. Three major galleries offer above and below water viewing.
Featured are the tide pools of the Southern California coast; frigid waters of
the Bering Sea; and the undersea wonderland of a barrier reef in Micronesia. |

An authentic Russian Foxtrot-class submarine is docked alongside the Queen
Mary. "Scorpion" is in near-operational condition and guests tour the torpedo
room, squeeze along central corridors, inspect crew quarters, view the top-
secret communications center, and peer through the periscope. Wear low-heeled
