    Boston, MA

    Boston is the capital city of Massachusetts and the largest city in New England. Located in Suffolk County on Massachusetts Bay, the area was settled in 1630 and became the capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1632. Today, Bostonians welcome more than 10 million visitors annually and tourism is one of Boston's major industries. The city hosts several major sports teams including the Bruins (ice hockey), Red Sox (baseball), and Celtics (basketball). Events include the Boston Wine Festival, Applefest, Boston Festival of Bands, Oktoberfest, Caribbean Carnival, and the Boston Folk Festival.

     Built in 1723, the church is the oldest church building in Boston and it has the first peal (bells) on this continent, some of the oldest in the world. This is the site where a sexton displayed two lanterns from a steeple to signal the departure of the British from Boston.

     Built on the site of the old 1657 Town House, the Old State House was built in 1713, and is Boston's oldest public building. In 1780 John Hancock was inaugurated at the state house as the first governor of the commonwealth.
