    Being the Gulf Coast's busiest resort for casinos, it also has other various entertainments such as it's sandy white beaches, golf courses, restaurants, seashore parks, forts, old famous mansions, and more. Biloxi means "first People," an American Indian word has been governed by many foreign countries besides the United States now. Biloxi, was the first white settlement in the Mississippi Valley and founded in 1699, by Pierre Lemoyne Sieur d'Iberville is commemorated by the Cross and Boulder at the exit of the Iberville Bridge. Interests around the area include, Fort Massachusetts on Ship Island where prisoners were kept during the Civil War, the Old Lighthouse, and Beauvoir mansion, Confederate President Jefferson Davis' last home for his last 12 years. Biloxi's events include year round fireworks from Deer Island, Biloxi's seafood heritage is celebrated on the first weekend in May, and Biloxi's Tricentennial.
